Day hiked from Whirlpool to Tie Camp (4.6KM one way) for lunch. The further you go down the fire road the less maintained it becomes. The final 2.6KM to Tie Camp was one part trail finding and one part obstacle navigation. It's a shame Parks Canada isn't maintaining this area (CBC article references a bridge on this particular 49KM out/back trail) because it's cutting off what would be a really appealing hike route.
