Locked Down - In December I noticed photos on the NAS had a suspicious suffix added to the filename. The culprit was my Plex Media Server/Yacam box became infected and all the files were encrypted. The box was immediately turned off and I began cleaning up the problem. Unfortunately any shared libraries (like on the NAS) were impacted too. Thankfully I have monthly backups and I could replace the photos and music that was encrypted and today I began reformatting the infected PC with a new operating system. Sorry Mister Crabz, you won't get any ransom from me.

Biggest fear right there. Make sure your backups are clean too.

The PC was completely wrecked - all applications, text files, etc. were unusable and if it wasn't such an unimportant machine it would have been a huge setback.

I didn't consider the backups being impacted! Thankfully I lapsed on doing a backup in November so they were from October and not at risk and easily replaced all the media. For safe measures I had a second backup disk too because now that I was reliant on it one time having it fail at another would be bad news.
